7.2 - Web client developmentYour last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

In current version it is necessary to develop PC client in Architect and web client separately, is this intergated in 7.2 release, if not are there any plans to integrate in the future?
and what is the quickest method to develop for the web client?
Does 7.2 provide a full customer portal, i.e. customer can log in and be security checked and then given access to any tables we code for?
Is there an integrated e-commerce cart or a suitable add-in?

In 7.2 the LAN and web client still have seperate interfaces, I believe version 7.5 they will be integrated (someone please correct me if ive assumed wrong!). The only (supported) method to develop for the web is using Sages Application Architect.
There is a customer portal, the same as in 6.2 - as for allowing certain tables I would assume so as you could in 6.2.
Im not sure why there would be an integrated e-commerce cart for a CRM site? There isnt one in this product, or an add-in im aware of.

Thanks - as I suspected, is there a release date for 7.5?
We are at 7.2 and considering upgrade to 7.2, but the web is an important aspect to us - it seems time consuming to have to develop web and client in tandem (we have not yet implented the web client). The reason for asking about e-commerce is that I have seen this working with another CRM portal and it seemed a nice feature to have.

No release date that I know of for 7.5 - 7.2 hasnt even been released yet (Aug 10th)...

Im guessing the e-commerce piece was a customisation

Another point to note is any web customisastions would have to be re-written for use in the new 7.2 web site (although you can still host the legacy web client through 7.2).

As far as actual version numbers, all is still up in the air. All of this is also subject to change, but this should give you some detail about the direction.

The future of SLX will mean a develop once, deploy anywhere strategy. This isn't here yet. Web and mobile, although both developed in the same tool in SLX 7.2, are still done separately - you still build different customizations for web and moble.

Future release, codenamed Sahara - 1st Quarter 2008 (Current target end of Feb). This release will do away with the current, old-school Architect. The LAN customizations will be done in the new Application Architect. You will be able to develop once and deploy to both web and LAN client. This will also mean the SLX LAN client will be a new .NET application. Visual Studio will also be able to be used in the same way that you can with SLX 7.2 web.

Future release codenamed Tanami - Later 2008. This release will bring mobile into the write once, deploy anywhere strategy. With this relese you will be able to deploy the exact same customization to web, lan, and mobile clients!

For 7.2, developing for the web client, you can use the new Application Architect, which is a great tool, and you can also use Visual Studio or other .NET IDE (such as SharpDevelop). The most straight forward route however is to use the Application Architect - although all the mentioned routes are supported.

Great Information - I can confirm this is accurate information.

One other item of note - a customization conversion tool will become available in a technology preview state in October. This tool will take LAN based customizations (Active forms and VB script) and create SLX 7.2 web quick forms and .Net assemblies.

Best thing is for you to formulate some specific examples of what you want to do and use these forums to ask the questions for help in getting started. Realize we all have jobs and cannot walk you through all the steps, that takes time, but we'd be more than willing to point you in the right direction for what you want to accomplish. Additionally, I will be holding some online training workshops on customerfx.com very soon (will be posting the workshops within the next week) if you'd feel like you'd benefit from some instructor-led workshops.
