URL in a DataGrid
Posted: 01 Sep 08 5:17 AM
Hi,
Does anybody know which properties to set to get a URL in a datagrid? I have the URL in the database (it is just a random web url), I need to have the hyperlink in the grid. Using the properties available in the Link column I can only ever get either the text to show for the link, and it takes you nowhere, or no text at all. I have even tried creating a custom property to wrap some <A> tags around the URL and place it directly in the grid as a bound column but no joy - Logix is replacing my tags with the HTML encoded characters instead so IE ignores them.
Any ideas which properties I should be setting?
Many thanks,
Nick

Which version is this for? I did this in 7.2.2 using a Custom column and I could add the hyperlink just fine. I can't remember what specifically I did in the format code for it, but I know it worked OK when I did it then. I did it in a 7.2.2 Web training class I was teaching (one of the students asked about it) so we did it in class and I'm not sure if I still have the database I used then, but I will check.

Hi Ryan,
I thought it could be done that way - just couldnt figure out which format string to use! I changed it to custom smart part and did in ASP.NET instead
Cheers,
Nick

Maybe that is what the difference is. I didn't use a format string per-se, but used the FormatMethod for this. You basically get to create a code snippet where the value is passed in and you format it however using C# code. So I just used string.Concat to append the necessary values together to create the complete URL and that is what showed in the grid.

Hi Ryan,
I dont suppose you have a sample of that do you? I need to do the same thing again and would be good to do it in the QuickForm. I am not sure what value you need to pick up in the Concat?
Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick,
I thought this would make a worthwhile blog post, so I've posted an example here:
