Change the binding field of an extension entity
Posted: 19 Nov 08 12:41 PM
Hi Gents…
Is there a way to override the binding fields on an extension table.
Here is my situation:
Opportunities 1:N to Quotes
Quotes 1:N to Quote_Products
Quote_Products 1:1 to Products
I have a main view showing my quote detail. I have a tab that is suppose to show the Quote_Products data along with some Product data. This data is not showing up because the join the system uses is Quote_Products.Quote_ProductsID=Product.ProductID when it should be Quote_Products.ProductID=Product.ProductID. I found this out through SQL Profiler…
I have the Quote_Products entity as an extension from the Products entity.
I looked all over for a place to change the binding fields and couldn’t find anything. I even tried to remove the extension property and create a child relationship instead of an extension. That way I could assign the productid to productid but it puked all over itself during the build.
Any advice on how to tell the extension binding I want it to use as the binding field. Or am I going down then wrong path there???
As always, you guys ROCK and I appreciate any pointers…

I don't know of any way to change the beaviour you describe.
The question is: why are you setting up Quote_Products as an extension of products?
(One quote has many products, but a product has only one quote???) Shouldn't be N-N between quotes and products?

It’s the same relationship as Opportunity_Products to Products. An Opportunity can have many Products. An Opportunity_Product record can only have one Product.
I have an Opportunity that can have many Quotes. Each Quote can have many Quote_Products. For every Quote_Product record I can only have one Product.
Actually with that being said, I am looking that the relationships for OpportunityProducts in AA and see that it has both Opportunity and Products defined as parents. I’m going to mirror that and see what happens.
I will post back my results…

Yep. But
each
Product can have
many
Quote_Products. In your configuration a single product can be associated to a single Quote_Product.
Hence, a single Product can be associated to a single Quote, which probably is not what you want.
You have to setup OpportunityQuote with 2 1-n relationships, which mimiks a n-to-n relationship.

Thanks Alberto. You hit the nail right on the head.
I set up my Quote_Products as a child to both Quotes and Products and all is good in the world again.
