Can we reasonably start an Slx 7.5 project ?Your last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

Hi everyone

We have been managing Saleslogix projects for years in France ( lan and remote clients)
We are currently proposing Web solutions (version 7.5) to our customers.

This version has just been released here in France, and so we have no field experience with it.
We have tested version 7.2 and found it very unstable. (A small modification in the interface would crash the application after deployment)

May be we had a bad version ?
The questions are :

- Can someone tell me if he has a real field experience in Web 7.5 and if this solution is stable today ?
- We find that there is a lack of information from Sage on development technics and issues. We bought the Devlogix V book written by Stephen Redmond which seems very good, but do you know about a document describing all API calls, parameters , etc.. with examples ?
- The source code of the "out of the box" product seems protected. In Architect, we could access this code, which was great for learning and finding solutions. Is the a way of accessing this code ?

We are eager to use that new system, but want to be sure that it is stable enough for a real commercial deployment.

Thank you for your advices.

Janick

I gave up on 7.2 Web .... it became to costly develop as I had to spend so much time just getting the stars to align. Tried again with 7.5 internally... Better but no dice. It is a server hog.... and I didn't have a dev box to really support it, so that could have been my problem. 2GB RAM just ain't cutting it anymore. I remember 10 years ago that even the though of having 2GB RAM was a fairy tale... now its bare minimum.

Hi RJ - do you mean to develop - or run ??

There are issues with the client browser - you will find that IE8, Firefox or Chrome are much better. You can see videos here - these are recorded in realtime - on a box that is hosted on our servers in London from my machine in Southampton (over a 20Mbps links).

Here is SLX 7.5 using IE7 - you can see it repaint the screen and, overall, the appearance is slow : http://www.empath-e.com/external/slx75/ie7.zip (1MB)
Here is SLX 7.5 using IE8 - much much better - still see the screen paints though but certainly less : http://www.empath-e.com/external/slx75/ie8.zip (9.6Mb)
Here is SLX 7.5 using Google Chrome - performance is blazing !! (this is running as a Chrome App) No repaints, just instant access !! : http://www.empath-e.com/external/slx75/chrome.zip (8.6Mb)

If you mean developer, then, yes - agreed (you're obviously aware that you should switch OFF pre-compile when doing dev work?)

Regards
Mike

Yep, I just upgraded my Laptop - 8Gb, dual proc, 750Gb on-board - the drives are 7200 with eSATA at 3Gbps - I don't believe you can go faster yet !!
