We are in the process of implementing 7.5 Web in Test.

I have two 7.5 Databases. Both of them has different business functionalities. So the users will need two different website URLs to get to their respective databases. When i install the website using webhost, do i create one single website in IIS called "saleslogix" and have 2 virtual directories in them or should i deploy 2 different websites. if it is one single website, how will mailmerge and intellysnc work with multiple databases at the same site. can someone please help. i am stuck at this point and i cannot go forward without knowing how to implement this.

Thanks
Uma

Although it might work with using a separate Virtual Directory I would personally install to two separate websites to be safe.

We've had a lot of issues with MailMerge and have spent countless hours on the phone with higher level techs. From what I understand about mailmerge, when you deploy the website the dll will essentially have the connection string and database information embedded into the dll. Now I you are planning on having users use both websites this might become a problem because I think you will run into issues with having to switch to the correct mailmerge dlls...

Anyways...I also can't see why you can't have just one database - it seems a bit weird to be storing accounts and contacts in separate places. Is there no overlap at all? You could use the same database and build security in couldn't you?

First of all thanks a lot for replying...

Having 2 databases installed is beyond me... it has been like that for years..before even i joined this company. and there is no overlap..its entirely two differnet business functionalities...

anway..the answer you gave me (having 2 different websites) was exactly my thinking... but when you install webhost, i believe you can do it only once and for one database. how do i install the second website? Should i create a website manually in IIS and point from the app architect and deploy to that website? what about intellisync? it should be installed twice for each website? these are my confusions...

Thanks
Uma

I think you will need to manually create the second site in IIS and use AA to deploy to it. You will also have to deploy intellisync to the second site as well via AA that way you have separate Intellisync portals.
