Associate email to customer account
Posted: 22 Apr 09 4:27 PM
If I send an email to my associate concerning customer abc, in the network client I can use the email drag and drop to associate the email to the customer. How can this be accomplished thru the web client?

You can give a user the ability to record emails to the proper contact/account (or opportunity/ticket) by setting the user's options (and lock them) to "Always Prompt" when recording an email to SalesLogix. This is found under the "Email" section of the "Client System" tab when editing a user's profile in Administrator. Look for the option "Log To History:" and change it to "Prompt". To prevent someone from turning this off, uncheck the "Allow user to change these settings" in the same section. We have never used the web client here but this relies on the "Send SLX" button being used when sending an email. So if the web client user sends email using the "Send SLX" button then I think this will work.
What happens when the "Always Prompt" is turned on is this. When the "Send SLX" button is used to send an email the "Complete E-Mail for.." dialog box will appear. It's in this dialog you can change the contact to the proper customer contact AND you can also associate the email directly to an opportunity and/or ticket for even better visibility. When done this way you eliminate having to drag and drop the email after setting up your screen just the right way and finding the contact to drag and drop the email. For most users this is very cumbersome and time consuming. Some will argue the dialog is annoying but its not. If you don't have to change the contact name or opportunity its just one simple click of the OK button to move on.
