Password Changes

I am currently on SalesLogix v.5.2 sp6 and I have lots of customizations on my database so upgrading is not an immediate option.
I am wondering what I can do about requiring pass rods in SalesLogix. I want alpha numeric passwords of at least 8 characters, containing at least one special character. Then I want that password changed every 30 days with a log kept of the historical passwords so it can't be changed to something that it has been. Also I would like the user to be forced to change their password on the first logon.
Has anyone made any customizations to the password piece of SalesLogix?
Anything would help.

You can set password policies in the Administrator (although I can't remember if this was in v5.2 or not - but I believe so). In the Administrator, go to Tools and Options. Look for a Password tab.

Thank you Ryan!
I had about half of my requirements already built into the application but I still need to:
1. Check for triviality (other than blank and username)
2. Keep history and can't reuse
3. Change logon initially
Any ideas?

Well, there's very little you can do for extending the password policies. It's not a customizable area or anything. You might be able to do something, but it will be difficult to really enforce.

Isn't some of that built in already? Well, not so much checking for triviality, but not allowing blank passwords and ensuring the passwords have both letters and numbers.
IIRC, the OOTB options are:
No blank passwords
Minimum length
Days valid
Must contain letters and numbers
Do not allow user name as password
Force user to change from default password
Beyond that you really aren't going to have much luck. You have no way to see what each users password really is so storing the password won't really help. I suppose you could store the encrypted hash and use that to compare. You'd have to built your own modal dialog or something that popped with the DBOpen event and do your checking. If you want the user to change their password you don't allow your dialog to close until they do so (you can change the password for the user programatically using the SetPassword SLX function). Then you allow the dialog to close and they continue as normal.

Thanks for the help, I didn't think I was going to be able to change any of that stuff. Any idea if anything like this will be included in future releases like version 7? I guess I could use the Active Directory integration and let Windows worry about this stuff, but I'll have to get to version 6 first!
I think I'm going to suggest that we upgrade to version 6.2 or 7 (depending on how long it takes me to figure out what I'm going to have to do for that), have you had any problems with the Active directory integration?

No changes for that in v7, not sure for v8 in that area yet. The AD integration works great. It would be your best bet and then you wouldn't have to worry about it. Of course, getting there will be another story
