Hi,

We had a problem with contacts being deleted so I revoked Delete Rights on both the contact and the account level. Saleslogix still permits you to merge, which seems really odd to me. Has anyone else resolved the issue of having contacts disapear. The only think I can think of is two write a trigger on my sql server (we don't sync) to see when contacts are being deleted. There has to been a better way?

Thanks for you help in advance.

Paul

Paul,

I believe the "Merge" fuction is still active because the user has access to the "Tools -> Maintenance" menu. Go into the WorkGroup Admin, select a user profile, click the Menus tab, then turn off access to the "Tools -> Maintenance" menu.

Disabling the Tools | Maintenance menu is definitely the way to go to get rid of the Merge functionality.

As for deleting accounts and contacts. We have had that issue here once or twice. But we've also stressed during training no contact or account is to be deleted. What we recommend is for the contact or account to be made 'Inactive'. And we tack the explaination on that if something is deleted its very likely that when a marketing list is imported the contact/account will again be added to the DB and people will once again start wasting time and effort (ok... and $$$).

Hi,

We too use the status fields. When I revoked DELETE RIGHTS, I assumed that MERGE would be disabled but I was wrong. We have imported data from several databases and we have dup issues. If people want a name deleted, we set this as a status and the admin reviews the contact before making the cut.
Thanks everyone for writing.
