Security Profiles and Custom fields in base tables problem, v7.2Your last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

I just did some work at a 7.2 site, that included putting a custom field in the Opportunity table. The customization works fine as Admin, and is spotty as a user. The problem is access to the custom field in the opportunity table. When you look at the field security profile for Read/Write and Team Owner (the two that are used at this site) it is set to "No Access". You can set it to Read/Write access till you are blue in the face, it keeps flipping back to "No Access" every time you exit the window where you made edits. All other fields can have their setting change and retain the new settings.

The odd thing is I can log onto the database as a user and get access to the field, but some users are reporting errors in functionality using the field. When I track the line number it is always where I'm accessing the custom field. So the field will show as No Access if I open the security profile, I can set it as Read/Write access, and users are getting intermittant access. The field does show in SecTableDefs.

This site is an upgrade from 6.1. I know they have had SLX at least since Version 4.

I just looked through known issues and resolved issues on 7.2 and 7.2 sp1 and could find no reference to a problem like this.

You have tripped into a KI.....

The SecProfile DATA BLOBS are "trashed".. every one of them.. every profile (typically). The internal contents is not correct. There's no data "byte" there to hold your change.

Go to the Partners NG and take a look there. Todd H posted about it along with a bunch of us months ago..

For all intents.. IF you are using FLS .. it's now total garbage and you will have to manually reset every profile.. every table.. manually.. no way to do it by code.

I'm not using field level security and it is only the custom field that does not work appropriately. It seems to be working fine for users now so I'll get the info you referenced then sit tight to see if I really need to go through that.

Even if you are not (currently) using FLS.. it really needs to be fixed since you have corrupt "meta-data" in the blobs. It can come back and bite (byte you....

Where is the "Partners NG" referred to above. Can someone post a link to Todd H's post on this subject?

Thanks!
Ken

The "Partner's NG" is open ONLY to SalesLogix BP's. If you are a BP then you can get access. There's info there that is "restricted", etc. .
