Remove Word as editor for email templates?
Posted: 23 Dec 09 8:44 AM

Our Marketing manager does not like creating his html emails in Word and would like to just put his html code in there in plain text or using Dreamweaver. We know how to turn off Word as the editor in Outlook, but that doesn't seem to do anything to remove Word as the editor in SLX.
When I click on "Write">"Templates" the "Manage Templates" dialog still has Word icons for the templates. |

The alternative is to use an email marketing service like Exact Target. They allow you to use your own HTML code if that is what you want. It is a very comprehensive service, so be aware - it's not cheap.
(We have an integration between them and SalesLogix) |

there is a difference between mail merge and email merge for SalesLogix. While mail merge in SalesLogix uses Microsoft word as its merging editor and template designer, for the email merge it depends on add on partner solutions called Swiftpage or Sage Communigator.
There is a difference between Sage Communigator and Swiftpage.
While Sage Communigator is a software that resides with the database within your premises and you as a company will additionally need to buy a list server(that supports mass mailing)/exchange server which will integrate to the Sage Communigator application for you to design email templates, prepare a target audience, suggest a date for the send process or send immedietly. In this context there is no limitation on the number of mails that you could send per day so long as your mail server does not get blocked for SPAM.
Swiftpage is a service instead of a software and offers the entire email sending, designing and response tracking as a service where there is a limit on the daily send from your account.
You can choose any of the above two apps to send mass mails, schedule send(drip marketing), bounce management, crm integration, response tracking, landing zone management, survey creation and several other capabilities.
Hope the above information helps |

This isn't quite correct. It relies on those services only if you are subscribed to them. You can do a merge through SLX without these services and have SLX merge the data from the db in to an email (Outlook/Lotus is used as the "engine") but all this work is client-side - you have to wait for it to run. By using the services you mention - you can avoid this. But, it's not a requirement. |

just wanted to let you know that Sage CommuniGator is offered as a fully hosted solution integrated with SLX (inc web client) as well as an installable solution. We are currently replacing the Empulse offering for those who remember that! |
