Mail Merge templates disabled in the Write menu

I have a client on 7.5.2 LAN (HF up to 11) whose users (a mix of XP and W7) all seem to be experiencing the following problem:
If a user selects Write / E-mail using template and then goes into ‘More Templates’ to select an available template, they are prompted as to whether they would like to add the selected template to the recently used items menu. They select OK and the mail merge proceeds as it should.
From now on, the template appears on the user’s Write menu, as expected, but it is greyed out and cannot be selected.
I've tried the KnowledgeBase suggested resolutions (Word installed, menu security allows access, MM* tables exist, contact list available at point of initiation), but none of them applies. The client did not have this problem in their old set-up (6.2.4!) and they use MM a lot, so this is quite an annoyance for them. Any ideas? They're using Office 2003, by the way.

Don't have the answer.....but
this might be 'related' to the bug where you couldn't edit the All or Latest Groups as ADMIN.....
go into architect and see about releasing the templates to the user.....
Why am I thinking this is a bug..... |

Hi Mike
I think you might have meant
HKCU\Software\SalesLogix\MailMerge\[SiteCode]\Users\[UserID]\WriteMenu ?
The key you mentioned does not contain MM-related entries, as far as I can see.
There is something going on here which I do not understand. If I look at the Registry entry for the greyed-out options on a user's PC, I'll see something like
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set) 0 REG_SZ "[doc name0]", "[pluginID0]", "[date]" 1 REG_SZ "[doc name1]", "[pluginID1]", "[date]"
If I then go into Manage Plugins to check releases for the plugin IDs mentioned, I cannot find them. I can find the documents (by name), but they have different plugin IDs.
Next thing I did was have a look at the PLUGIN table via SQL - the plugins do exist there, with 'RELEASED' set to 'F', which is obviously suspicious. Why can't I see these records in Manage Plugins? Can anyone explain what might be going on?
Cheers Phil

If you run a Write X using Template - the settings are here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SalesLogix\MailMerge\[sitecode]\Users\[userid]\WriteMenu\[type] - followed by an entry (0/1/2/3 etc) for each merge run.
This is/should then be available on the Write MRU menu (irrespective of whether this is a public/personal mail-merge id) - suggest you delete all and try again.
However, if you run a Write | MailMerge | [template] then this is not added to MRU but your options for the merge are saved here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SalesLogix\MailMerge\Users\[userid]\Options
As to why they gray out - not entirely sure ! But, try deleting those entries first. RELEASED = F is normal - as it will be the original document, followed by copies (released = F) and the BASEDON will be null with RELEASED = T for the original/master.

Thanks Mike
I got the user to delete the entire
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SalesLogix\MailMerge
key from their registry and try again. The problem remains and I am starting to think that there is a bug somewhere.

Odd indeed. I've heard from a colleague that we have another client experiencing the problem, but have yet to verify that for myself.
It's 7.5.2 SLX with all LAN HFs applied to HF11.
Office 2003, SP3.

fiogf49gjkf0d Hi Phil
I've had this recently as well, the answer seems to lie in the entity context, i.e. in order to work it needs to be defined as a Contact template.
In my instance I had extra entries on the end of my registry entry -
"Order Ack", "p6UJ9A0003PP", "17/09/2010", "0", "" (Which as the name suggests is based upon an opportunity)
If I put in CONTACT in the final empty string the menu item is enabled.
(Not much use to be honest as my users do not have registry permissions but...)
