Adhoc Groups - sharing and modifyingYour last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

We are on version 7.5.2 web in the process of upgrading to verison 7.5.3. Prior to this we were on LAN client 6.2.  While on LAN client, when you share a group with someone else, they were able to modify the group. However on the web client, this feature has been disabled.  Only the owners are able to modify a group. Well, that is agreeable as you want to give control to the owners.

But there are instances where you want to use the group or make changes or delegate task to someone else.  Is there a way to give modify access of a group to another person?  I tried copying the group. But unless you are the owner, it won't copy the contacts but only the different column layout with a blank page.  If you are the owner it copies the whole lot.  This is really not user friendly.  Any advice on sharing a group with modify permission will be appreciated.

The key here is adhoc groups.....can't an ADMIN get involved and share this stuff? OR can't the original owner share this group appropriately? What if you have ADMIN release this to a Team.....Everyone....

Here's what i found out.  When a group is shared, only the owner has modify access.  All others can only have read only access.  If you want someone else to manage the group, you should transfer ownership to them which can only be done by the Admin.

To get around this, I was adviced that shared users can make a copy of the ad-hoc group and they then become owner of the group.  So they can then manage the group from then on and delete the original group.  But when the group is copied, data doesn't come across.  Documentation says that SAGE has identified this as an error and fixed it in 7.2.2 (see below).  However, the error still appears in 7.5.3.  this has been escalated to SAGE. I will post resolution when received.

INTL: No records appear when copying an ad hoc group in the Web Client

Entry Type: Informational

Product: Sage SalesLogix

Application: Web Client

Version Reported: 7.0.x. 6.2.6

Defect ID: 1-56910. 1-56930, & 1-56931

Description:

INTL: No records appear when copying an ad hoc group in the Web Client.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Log on as the Administrator and create a new ad hoc group (AdHocCopyTest) using records selected from Accounts or Contacts.

  2. Share the new group with some users (Barb, Lee).

  3. Log out and log into the Web Client as one of the users who has access to the shared group (Barb).

  4. Select the shared group and then make a copy (CopyOfAdHocCopyTest) and no records are displayed from the copy.

Copying an ad hoc group on the SalesLogix Client brings up a message informing the user that this is not allowed. The same message is not displayed from within the Web Client.

Possible Resolution:

This is a reported known issue in SalesLogix version 6.2.6. To resolve, upgrade to version 7.2.2 or higher.

You can change the "Owner" of a group via the Architect - Manage Plugins.

Keep in mind that sharing an Adhoc Group doesn't share out the contacts. If a user that receives the Group has no access to the Contacts, he/she will not see them.

We don't have restrictions on contacts.  Everyone can see all the contacts.

The scenario is where there is a substitute Executive Assistant managing an event, or in some instances more than one person managing an event, then they need 'modify' access to the groups.

Changing ownership is not really feasible each time.
