Moving groups from admin to a userYour last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

Since the dawn of time (and before I started working here) the SLX admin never had her own login. She used admin and she has created about a zillion groups/adhoc groups. When you login as admin it takes a while to load the groups. I have been forcing her to use her own login lately instead of admin and asked her to clean up these zillions of groups since 1999. Now for my question. I would like to run a sql script and just moved them over to her login so they are no longer under admin.

Is this possible and can you point me in the right direction?

Yes it is possible.

From the Architect, you could manually change the Owner of each group.

From an SQL Script, you could identify those Groups that are Owned by Admin and then decide who to assign them, but keep in mind that if you assign all of them to a different user, that user may have the same issues that Admin faces with the groups.

Also, maybe it is time to cleanup the Groups. Ask around which Groups are used by which Users, and "Archive" the rest of the Groups into a Temporary table.

To many to do via Architect. And these are groups only the admin can see (not released). She is the only user of these groups so they belong under her id not admin. for about 10 years she did everything as the admin user and never even had her own login. She now has her own but keeps loging in as admin to access the groups. She has started creating new ones under her id.

I just was not sure if simply changing the userid was enough to "move" them to her. so basically I want to move all of the un released groups from admin to her id via SQL script.

Sure, simple SQL Statement:

For ACO groups:

UPDATE PLUGIN SET USERID = 'THEUSERID' WHERE TYPE = '8' AND USERID = 'ADMIN'

Replace THEUSERID with the User ID of the corresponding user.

If this user is a Remote, you may need to use the SLX Admin to execute the statement.

If it is only the amount of time it is taking to login, you can go into Manage Groups (as admin) and change the "show groups visible to" someone that only has a few groups. Speeds up login for admin.

Actually, seems that even if you do want to move all the groups from admin, you'll still have the slow login unless you change the "Visible to" anyway, since by default, admin sees everyones and loads them on login.....
