Can saleslogix be networked (WAN) in place of using a saleslogix remote office setup
Posted: 31 Aug 10 4:07 PM
Hello.
I have a customer, where there are a number of very large custom tables in the database. We originally used the remote office setup using the Saleslogix synchronization to these remote offices (there are 5 in total). The sync server is on a seperate server but the sync process, where the large custom tables were getting updated took a very long time to update.
I would like to know instead of using the Remote Offices can I successfully setup the users at these remote offices directly, using network methods to main Saleslogix network and database systems?
Thank you for your time and answers.

Yes and No.
SalesLogix is not intended for a WAN environment, but it can be done, off course, performance would be bad and you may get some random errors (due to network errors).
I do have a customer with a similar issue and has indeed adopted this solution, with the understanding that the Connection will be slow.
Now, if you have a nice WAN link, and they have fast connections and good latency, they may be in a better position.
And finally, off course would require a new Implementation: What about the Web Client?

Another error 'group' that we get is concurrent access to records that each user is updating.....for an example....an Opportunity that is still being worked on even while another user has changed it to Closed - Won (or lost).....user's go to lunch or leave an Account/Opportunity open for several hours without a screen refresh.....
I had a WAN client that was assigning Customer Numbers sequentially based on a row insert...that worked. REading the max record and storing away a dummy record + 1 in the field and then updating it later with the real data proved too slow (waiting until the Account was completely filled in before saving the new max Customer Number was problematic from the get go).
The real life issues are exacerbated by a slow WAN....

Thanks for the feed-back Raul and Phil. I have managed to successfully to implement saleslogix using terminal servers for the remote offices. I am not sure why the web client was not used when the this project was started 2 years ago but due to the vast amount of customization it will take a while to re-develop Salelogix Web.
Thank you again
