Clustering SQL

We currently have SQL running on a single box. I owuld like to upgrade the SQL box and get a cluster up and going. Any "gotchas" out there when running Saleslogix? I will also have 2 other databases on the Server, not SLX related. I will also have two remote offices soon (currently I only have one). Does anyone out there run SLX on a Cluster for fault tolerance?

Hi Kevin,
We run our SalesLogix environment on a SQL 2000 cluster and have not had any problems. There are a few other non SLX databases on the cluster as well, and this has not effected performance for us. There is a regular failover test every week and this has not caused us any problems, though it is done out of hours. We only run the web client and do not support remotes (either offices or users), so I am affraid I can not offer any help on that, but in theory it should be fine.
One of the things we are trying to achieve is a H/A DR solution which involved replicating data from our primary cluster to another cluster offsite that we can switch to in the event of catastrophic failure at our main site. One of the things that concerns me is the fact that each instance of SalesLogix create it's own sitecode which is used as the base for generetaing SLX ID's in the tables. If we replicated data to the DR site, the ID's would be different from the ID's generated in the DR database. Since we do not run / nor plan to run/ remotes, can anyone think of a reason why this could cause an issue?

| We too are about to dive into this. I already have server one in stock and waiting on final go ahead to purchase the second for the sql 2000 cluster. I also have approval for qtr 4 08 to purchase a replication software to replicate our cluster to a DR site. This is all new territory for me and would be very thankful for any advise along the way. We will be putting our four core application databases and our intranet databases on this cluster. Basically all databases that we integrate the data will be on the cluster. I had not even thought about the IDs on the replicated server at the DR facility! |

I'm in Dayton, too, and running SLX on a clustered SQL box with 8 other databases on it. No gotchas or issues to report.
