I have a 7.0.1 SLX Database running on SQL 2000, and I was desiring to upgrade to SQL 2005/8 after the SalesLogix upgrade because it was slated as part of our virtual server migration. SalesLogix Support tells me I have to move to SQL 2005 in order for 7.5.2 application architech to function. They really couldn't tell my why to my satisfaction, so I was wondering if there was another way. We have several Databases on the Server that are interdependant and I didn't want to tackle that animal till after we were up on 7.5.2 due to the schedule of our virtual server project.

I went from 6.2 to 7.5.2 on SQL 2000. I didn't have any database related problems at all. Our installation was largely stock though with only a few customizations, none of them database-related. I actually contacted our SLX partner to ask why 2005 was being required and was told it was only because MS was end-of-lifing 2000. All I can say from experience in several test environments and eventually live that my upgrade to 7.5.2 worked fine on 2000.

Thanks for the reassurance, thats what I would suspect.
Are you using the Web Client also?

We just started using the Web client after this upgrade. It seems to work fine. We haven't uncovered any database-related issues in the Web client. I will say that I attempted to force the Web host to work on IIS5/Server2000 multiple different ways and wasn't successful. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but I had to upgrade the web server to server2003/IIS6 to get it to work.

No problem, I do recommend trying it in test first though or taking an image of your server first. I came across various general upgrade issues (none happened to be database related) that I had to work out in 3 passes before it was a completely smooth upgrade.
