Changing a userfield from string to a numberYour last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

Hi all.

I created a userfield to store the number of beds a facility may have, but I realize that if I do a query to display all facilities that have more than 100 beds, it gives me facilities with 90 and 60 etc. I think it's because the field is a string, so it's doing a comparison based on 100 being a string.

How can I change the field type from string to a number (long etc.) I tried creating a new userfield but it defaults to string and it grays it out.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

If you want to create a new field you would:
Start the Architect
Select Manage Database from the menu
Select your table
Click the "New Field" icon
Enter a field name
Change the Data Type to Long Integer (or Short Integer)
Click OK

You may be able to issue a SQL command to change the data type in place. What version of SalesLogix are you running?

When I go to the Architect, Manage Database, select the table it does not let me click the New Field icon, it's grayed out. When I try to used one of my userfields it grays out the ability to change the data type.

Very strange. It should let you modify table that you add.
What is the name of the table that you added?
What is the name of the field that you added?

When you said "I created a userfield to store the number of beds" in your original post I assumed you had added a field to some table you created. In the current version of the software SalesLogix does not let you change their base tables.

You can add a table that has a 1-to-1 relationship with the Account table (say perhaps pmi_account) then add a field to hold the information you are tracking.
