Upgrade to V7 or SQL 2005 first?Your last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

I have a client who is upgrading both to SQL2005 and SLX v7 from SQL2000 and SLX 6.2sp3 in the next month. We are tossing around which to do first. Any opinions?

Also, Any known or little known gotchas with upgrading to SQL2005 from 2000? Do new remotes need to be cut? Is there any documentation on this out there? Thanks

I'm also curious on the response to this. We are currently on 6.2.4 and are looking at both the upgrade to SQL 2005 and the upgrade to v7.x.

We have found that to cut remote databases from a SQL 2005 environment, you must have a separate machine with Admin installed that only has MSDE/SQL 2000 with Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer on it and no SQL 2005 components. You must use the SQL Server Native Client to connect. If you search the Sage SalesLogix support online knowledge base, there is an article on this (how to cut DB's in SQL 2005). Also, Mike Spragg and others have given several good tips on the ITToolbox.com SalesLogix group; you may want to search there as well.

Good luck! LaNae

I would suggest a DB upgrade first, and then the application from 6 to 7.

Dave.

We just spoke to our vendor about this yesterday. He told us that we because we are using Remote Sync, we must upgrade SLX to version 7 before upgrading our DB to 2005, or we will lose your ability to sync. We are on 6.1, and this may or may not apply to 6.2, but wanted to pass this info along.

Can you ask him why? SQL2005 is qualified for both 6.2.4 and 7 per my earlier discussion with SLX tech support. I don't know why they would qualify it, if it caused sync to stop working. What happens when you add another SP or HF or upgrade again later?

This summer I upgraded a 6.2.4 system to SQL 2005 in preparation for 7.0. However there were NO remotes involved so I cannot say how this would work in that environment. SQL 2005 ran SLX just fine though. There was one minor SQL script that had to be run, otherwise it was a very smooth transition for us.

Good question. In our case our SQL Server 2000 is not going to be updated because it host other databases as well. So we are just stuck with upgrading to 7.0 and when the time comes, will upgrade to SQL 2005. That might not be till SLX 8.0

Marc, what was the SQL script that you had to run? Was it specific to your database or is it something that everyone should do? If you could provide more details, I would appreciate it. Thank you, LaNae
