Database login failed: Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]Your last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

I installed SLX Web Host 7.0 and upgraded to 7.01 on a VM server that is running Windows 2003. SaleLogix Server and the database are installed on another VM server running Windows 2003 and SQL 2005. When I try to login to the Web Manager, I receive the error stated in the subject of this thread. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check your Surface Area Configuration (on SQL2005) and ensure that TCP/IP for remote hosts is allowed and that, also, you've installed the SQL Network Client on the VMWare session.

Thanks, Mike, the Surface Area Configuration tool is what I was missing. Once I changed the configuration to allow remote connections, the SLX Server needed to be restarted and it is working now.

Interesting note - I had looked at the SQL Server properties under CONNECTIONS and saw that the box for 'Allow remote connections to this server' was checked, but I still couldn't connect. It wasn't until I used the Surface Area Configuration tool, that it started working.

Thanks again.

Dave
