An interesting little problem in Version 7.2 and 7.2.1: At one of my clients, the Administrator program will just 'go away' in a few seconds after a user has invoked the "Systems" view. No error messages result. I think this is due to a bad installation or a problem with my installation DVD media. But I'm not sure, and if anyone has also experienced this problem, please let us know.

KI.. been there for some time (on the bug list) and Sage does not have a fix yet. It's not an install/bad vd, etc.. it's a true bug.

It's been written up and discussed for a LONG time in the partner's NG. I suggest you go there and read some of the threads.

Oh Thank God someone else is having that problem. Support says they can't reproduce it. Based on some studying I did of the bug you will notice the following thing:

If the Administrator opens and does not load your users (hence it will not show you logged in network client users) that is a very strong indication that the problem will terminate. Normally for me its right clicking to edit a user or access any button which wil make it crash.

If someone does find out about a fix. Please message me and i'd love to apply it immediately.

Thanks Bob & Michael,

I too had called the Support line without a resolution. That's why I thought it was an install/media problem. I also tried re-installing .NET and a few other minor ideas. And I also tried installing on a virtual server here at our office, but that install (7.2.1) works correctly. I can't make it crash. But now I got two clients (7.2 and 7.2.1) where it happens. 'Sounds like I'll have to compare environments. Ugh!

But first I'll go and review the partner's NB. And if anyone knows of a good work-around, please speak up.

Once again, Thanks,
Bob

No workaround at this time. This was an item that was corrected in 6.2.6 if I remember correctly but then resurfaced in 7.0 and 7.2 without a fix so far. I have found it to happen more when running Administrator through a Remote Desktop session but not limited to that and I have found that on the same system, Administrator will do this on one machine but work fine on another.

Not sure but it seems to be more reliable on a Win XP workstation than running on a Win 2003 Server.

To reduce the problem a bit, set the Options in Administrator to open in a view otherr than the User view. This allows it to stabilize a bit when it opens and it seems to reduce the disappearing act, but not get rid of it completely though.

Does this happen on any machine you run administrator on? If so then it is likely data related. The administrator does crap out on many weird data issues (such as a user that reports to itself). Maybe you could find some answers running the profiler while it is loading?

Michael (2) & Ryan,
Good suggestions (running profiler & changing initial view option), and I'll try them. This doesn't happen on all machines. My workstations and virtual servers here at the office seem to work correctly. But at 2 clients, its another story. And it happens on machines I designated as Administrative Workstations being used directly (not remotely).

I'll let you all know what happens when I get back to these clients early next week. Unfortunately, I can't seem to reproduce this condition here.

Thanks again.

You are not alone, and neither am I. A new client mentioned this problem a few days ago. She's running SLX v7.2.1 on XP. Server is 2003 with SQL 2005. Install was done in December. When I remote into thier server I can run Administrator all day with no problem. On her PC it shuts down within five minutes of starting. I suggested she call SLX tech support, and they acted like it was the first time they'd ever heard of this problem. Let me know if you find a fix and I'll do likewise.

Ryan,
It happens on GOOD systems (my production 7.2.1 does it occasionally).. and you know I have a very "clean" system..

My opinion.... something goes crazy when it's trying to recurse thru hierarchy and security...
