Hello~ Is it possible to run two versions of the sales client V6.2 and v7.0.1 on the same terminal server. They will be pointing to two different SLX servers.

thanks in advance

Nope. Won't work. You'd have to run them on different servers or at least in separate virtual machines.

To add to Ryan's response....

Running multiple versions of SalesLogix (or "mixed" setups in general) will not work because there are dlls that have the same name, registry keys that conflict, etc...

I have seen scenarios where one might have hacked in a pre-v6.x with a 5.2.x.. but even then, only in an emergency dev setup.. with limited success.. never for production..

As Ryan says.. VM is the way to go.. that is what the vast majority of us do on the partner side (lost count as to how many VM's we have .

Citrix Systems (Presentation Server 4.5) has an excellent tool that allows you to isolate applications into different running environments. (Since the server piece is on two separate servers, it sounds like this may be a good solution for you).

For example, with Citrix Presentation Server, you can run an older version of Microsoft Office such as 2002 with a newer version such as 2007. Terminal Services does not have this feature for doing this as you will run into issues that Bob and Ryan have mentioned. The organization I work for, runs Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 (we can upgrade to 4.5) but we haven't yet.

Citrix is built off of Microsoft Terminal Services and provides a lot of enhanced features. Since Microsoft & Citrix are close partners, you will find that the incremental improvements in Terminal Services (such as in Win 2003) were actually older versions of the Citrix Product that microsoft obtained rights to reuse in their OS. I was told this information by Citrix Senior Product Engineers.

Setting up Virtual Machines as Ryan mentioned will yield you positive results since versions won't clash and produce unexpected results. You can use VMWare ESX Server 3 (free) which may provide you with some good basics for accomplishing your task. I have used it within my organization to test pre-deployments of new SalesLogix releases such as with version 7.2. VMWare also sells licensed versions which have additional features that may be worth it for you to purchase.

That's my two cents

Good luck!
