We did a client install for version 7.2 including SLX SP2 on a new Windows XP / SP3 machine. When we start the SalesLogix client, the following error appears:

Exception EOleException: OLE error 800A0E7F
Exception location: [00542870]{SalesLogix.exe}

If we click "OK" it just hangs at that point. At the bottom of the splash screen it says "Initialization - Creating Data Access".

I've found one link that partially matches my error:

http://customerfx.com/pages/tech-talk/2009/04/24/Exception-EOleException-On-SalesLogix-LAN-Clients.aspx

But I doubt that is the problem since we never reach a login screen.

Does anyone know what is wrong and how I can resolve this?

This has been resolved by reinstalling the operating system and then installing the SLX client. The only difference with this client install than previous ones is that Office 2007 SP 2 had been installed prior to doing the SalesLogix install.

We've also encountered this issue twice in the last few weeks. We reloaded the first one but I'd really like to avoid reloading the second. Anyone have an idea?

When you get this error, is the SLXSystem running? Check via Task Manager.
If so, kill it and attempt to run SLX again.

If this is the case, you may want to configure SLX System to run as a Service.
Also, if doing this doesn't solve it, you may try just reinstalling the OLEDB Provider, and make sure that you apply the necessary SP and HF to have the Client and Server running on the same version.

Raul,

Thanks for your response. You were correct about the OLEDB provider. I contacted Sage support and they basically had me disable NT authentication, get into the connection properties, and reselect the machine and database. After that it worked fine. Stupid easy.

Joe, HTH for next time.

My problem was that I was set to use NT auth, so I couldn't get to the connection manager without encountering the error. SLX Support had me run the client with the /bypassntlogin switch. I was then able to recreate the OLEDB connection, which fixed the issue.

Did you try going to a command prompt, go to slx installation and then:

saleslogix.exe /bypassntlogin

If you still get the err - then that's not the issue (as per this thread).
