You can run MSDE and SQL Express concurrently on a machine (same as multiple versions of SQL Server), so you need to check and see if SQL Express got installed.

Second, even though SLX may include the MSDE installer, I believe that uninstalling SalesLogix doesn't remove MSDE (this is due to the fact as well that other applications may be utilizing it, so removing SLX shouldn't break other apps).

With that in mind, you need to verify if indeed SQL Express was installed, and if so, what is the instance name so that you could then attach your remote DB to it.

Once you have to replace an upgraded remote, you'll have to upgrade from MSDE to SQL Express. Your admin machine will cut SQL 9.0 (MSDE is SQL 8.0) and 9.0 won't attach to an 8.0 engine.

I have been unable to install a database with MSDE on the system, even if SQL Express is there. The Attach Remote Database utility gets confused as to which directory to install the database and tries to put it into the MSDE directory.

If MSDE is needed for other apps, you might try attaching those databases to a separate instance of SQL Express. If not then the upgrade is pretty painless.

I checked under Start-Programs there is a folder name SQL 2005 Server is that the one ? is there any configuration setting that I will need to dounder the SQL 2005 Server , when I was trying to attach the DB it was telling me that it was in use by another program I think it was refering to the MSDE instance that still running on my machine...

Thank you

Go into Add/Remove Programs and remove Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Edition.
