SLX v.7.5 - Is it possible to install the Outlook integration .dlls without installing the full SLX local client?Your last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

We're running on SLX v 7.5 in an environment with several remote office servers and a main home server.  We're currently starting to decommision several of the remote office SLX servers, so users in those offices are using CITRIX for SLX access.

My question is as folllows.  If we remove the SLX client from all personnel's computers (since they are using Citrix for SLX), we anticipate that the Outlook integration capabilities ('Send to SLX', 'Record to History') will also be removed.

We WANT users to have the 'Send to SLX' and 'Record to History' functionality within their local Outlook clients, but we are unclear whether or not an installation package is available for that feature without installing the full client.

Is the installation of the SLX Outlook integration .dll components possible without the full client install on a local machine?  We'd like to pursue that option if possible and map the database connection to our main SLX DB server without having to install a full client on these remote office users.

Thanks for the help!

Fred

Unfortunately, no - you can't do that (there would need to be a connection to the db from the local machine - and nothing there to do so. Also, it is a function of the SLX Client that actually deals with the recording via SendSLX (otherwise, just sits in a queue) so they'd have to run the client which, as you can see, would defeat the point. Your best bet is have them run Outlook on the TS as well (which works, have lots of people using it that way).

Have you look around on the SLX KB?

There are some articles (yes they may not include 7.5 on the list, but you could still check them out and try some of the approaches described):

How to configure local Outlook to use Advanced Outlook Integration with SalesLogix installed on a Citrix Server

No guarantees, but should give you some insight on what could be done.

Can tell you - that's a waste of time - just tells you how to install it ON citrix/ts

Thanks Mike - really appreciate the quick response.

Our Citrix neighborhood is not clustered properly, ie - Outlook and Saleslogix could be run in one session on different servers, and not all servers housing Outlook will have SLX client installed.  We'll make sure that is fixed first.

Another alternative that allows complete flexibility will be to simply install the full client mapped to our main SLX database server - they would know that performance would be slower running it locally vs. Citrix, but at least the Outlook integration pieces would be available regardless.

Thanks again!

You are probably right, but just wanted to share the information.
