Hi,

Having fixed the writecache location issue I have now found the next "problem".

For our remote office we are running the software on a separate box to the SQL Server. When trying to make the connection to the database through the connection manager I get the message:

"The Connection Manager can only make connections to local databases"

I have read elsewhere that this is a known "issue" and is due to a missing registry key called "AllowHostConnect".

Does anyone know if this is the case and, if so, have more information on how to fix it.

Many thanks.

Steve

All,

I now have a fix for this if you are interested. After speaking to Sage (it is a known defect) this was their response:

The Connection Manager in the Remote Office software is the same as that in the Remote Client. The application has had a registry key removed so that a remote user can not use the Connection Manager on their laptop to connect to an external database server - it will only allow a connection to the instance of MSDE on the same machine. Unfortunately, when the software was packaged with the Remote Office installation it was forgotten to put the registry key back in!!!!

For those who need it all you need to do is add the registry key AllowHostConnect to the path HKLM\Software\SalesLogix. This will look like a folder in the left pane when added through RegEdit.

I'm still awaiting a response from Sage to see if this will be a supported fix.

Which version number specifically? I was wondering if it's possible this was caught and fixed in 6.2 SP4 for instance or if it's going to be addressed in another SP or version 7. Not that this applies to me any time soon it's just one of those things I'll have to keep in the back of my head for whenever it does come up.

Thanks for the alert.

We are upgrading to V6.2 SP3 with hotfixes 3 & 5. Sage have not said that this has been fixed in SP4.
