SalesLogix.exe, version 6.2.0.1474 The first thing I am noticing is you are on a pre-DST patch version. Have you checked to see if the Microsoft DST patch has been applied? If it has then this is most likely the issue. You will either have to upgrade SalesLogix to a DST friendly version or apply the SalesLogix DST patch.
The best thing to do IMHO, is to upgrade SalesLogix.

When you say "removing the patch" are you referring to the Microsoft DST update?
Reason I ask is because the patch I am talking about is the SalesLogix patch for the Microsoft DST update. This can be found on the SalesLogix Support support main web page. SalesLogix also has an 'UNDO' patch that you have to apply to all machines that had the SalesLogix patch applied before doing an upgrade. So you will have to document which PCs/Servers you applied the SalesLogix patch. Then, before upgrading, apply the SalesLogix UNDO patch.
As for your question about upgrading. I would recommend upgrading as soon as you can, but do so using a development environment first - especially if you have customizations. You can then upgrade, recreate the customizations and test all within the test environment. Remember to document along the way. and follow the SalesLogix Upgrade documentation. Make notes and document how long each step took. This will gives you an idea how it will go in production and also help avoid any issues.
One note I have to make. When we upgraded it was from version 6.2.1 to 7.0.0 and we immediately applied service pack 1 (7.0.1). This is the same thing you will have to do.
Another note that we discovered after the upgrade is there were some issues with the marketing and new leads features. One of the main issues was there was a script in an earlier version of the marketing feature pack that was not applied in the upgrade from 6.2.x to 7.0. This caused some issues but was easily rectified going forward. I just don't know what else might have been 'missed' that was part of the feature pack or in between service packs. Where I am going with this is you might want to first upgrade your current system to version 6.2 service pack 4 (6.2.4) which includes the new marketing feature pack, then upgrade to 7.0 then 7.0.1.
If you decide to do the upgrade from 6.2.0 to 6.2.4 to 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 you can wait to update customizations until you get the system up to 7.0.1. I know it sounds like a lot but it shouldn't take that much longer.
Last note, and a very important one. ALWAYS do a backup before starting the upgrade process! In the mutli-version upgrade process I would make a separate backup of the database before and after each version upgrade.

Thank you for your thorough explanation
I was concerned that the simple fix for this was so involved but I can see that Sage have fixed other bugs in this patch and there are other table structure changes
We are now considering whether we upgrade with the patch or go to Version 7 as you suggest or even drop the product and instal Microsoft CRM. We supply Avaya and can link that directly to MS CRM but would need to write the application to link to SLX.
Problem is we use customised forms and scripts so would need to recode if moving away from SLX

Sorry, We are not a SLX BP, we are an Avaya BP and a MS BP but use SLX ourselves and use as the front end for our business data held in SQL. Thanks to the tips so far I have done more research and the new features in Version 7 and the inclusion of support in the same client application will be real benefits. I would like to implement 7.2 as the web client seems to fit our business model much better and the new customer web portal is just what we want and Version 7.5 seems to be the release where our wishlist gets ticked.
We still have three missing pieces though -
a CTI application to populate a lookup in a floating form and click through to a record Is it possible to open and display a form or activity on screen by a call from an external script?
read/write to sage Line 50 (our accounts package) although we can use ODBC the connections are slow - has anyone any experience in this area?
Business Automation The triggers in SLX for support handling are not that good, I presume they ar better in V 7 but what we are looking to do is to automatically send emails, send SMS, print letters based upon criteria

Oops.. sorry.. got you guys crossed up w/another....
7.5? - There has been no Public/Official statement by Sage Saleslogix as to what the "step" after 7.2 will be. Anyone saying 7.5 is purely guessing. There are internal "code names".. some of which cannot be published because of NDA (includes Partners and Clients). However, the direction being set by teh Application Architect in 7.2 IS teh model for everything (Web, Windows, Mobile) for this generation (3rd) of SalesLogix.
You can purchase a GOOD CTI App that works well w/Avaya & Slx from QGate (UK based BP).
New package (ERPLink) coming from Sage SalesLogix that should solve your Line 50 problems.
I'd go for TaskCentre (Orbis) to do all of your "Automation".
See.. all of you problems will be solved!
