Writecache Folder Location

fiogf49gjkf0d Hi,
In V5.2 of SLX the writecache folder was created on the same drive as the Sync Server installation. In V6.2 it has been put in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.
Is it possible to move this location?
We are in the process of testing our upgrade to V6.2 and the corporate policy is to have the O/S on the C: drive and applications installed to D:. Consequently the C: drive is small and rebuilding the servers is going to be a major problem. The SalesLogix Server for our V6.2 test installation is installed to D:
Any help would be much appreciated.

fiogf49gjkf0d I believe the C:\ portion is hardcoded though I may be wrong. It may be looking for wherever Documents and Settings\All Users is located and doesn't care about the drive.
I see 2 options:
1) NTFS junction. It's like a symlink in *nix. Have your stuff on D:\ but point a link to it in C:\ so that both paths reach the same destination.
2) Actually move all of Documents and Settings to the new drive (recommended, I have serious issues on an old 2k machine with 4 gb personally). |

fiogf49gjkf0d Thanks for that. I've run through the knowledgebase article and moved the whole "Documents and Settings" folder. That seems to have done the trick but the sync server is running like a pig.

This is configurable as follows:
To use paths that are defined in the registry;
1) Add: "HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\SalesLogix\PathManager"
2) Run an application. (eg: SyncServer). This will add the values and default paths to the registry.
the paths will be prefixed with "<>" which makes the data info only as it is commented out
CommonAppData Documents and settings\All Users\Application Data
PersonalData MyDocuments
CommonAppDataBasePath
PersonalDataBasePath
SyncDataBasePath SyncClient & SyncServer
SyncOutfilesPath SyncClient
SyncInfilesPath SyncClient

BundlePath
DocumentsPath
ReportsCheckoutPath
ReportsTempPath
ReportsRunPath
CachePath

3) Pick the value you want to modify and do so. Remember to remove the <>.
4) The next time the associated app is run - it should use the new path.
**When changing the path for the Write Cache/Conftran.stm - remember to move the old conftran.stm file from original location if you want to keep the old data. It no file exists - it creates a new one.
... I've tested this and it seems to work fine; certainly better than having to move the Documents and Settings folders.

fiogf49gjkf0d Do you know which version this applies to? I've seen PathManager show up in regmon entries so I believe it goes back to 6.1 at least but I may not be accurate in that assumption.
You could go back to yesteryear (5.x and previous) and place all of this in the Program Files\SalesLogix folder. I don't see of any other reason you'd want to change locations in the registry only especially given the requirement of keeping all of the data separate from the OS. Yes documents and settings is part of the OS but it is classified as data. On small drives, this grows rather quickly since each user has their own registry hives stored with their profile. |

In V5.x the writecache folder is created on the same drive as the application is installed (which makes a lot of sense). In our company C: is used just for the O/S, D: for apps and E: for data hence the C: drive is normally relatively small. Having the writecache folder default to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users caused us a big problem and I didn't want to start having to rebuild servers. Having access to change the paths through the PathManager reg key alleviates the problem. |
