Attachemnt Folder Size
Posted: 24 Apr 09 7:33 AM
We have been on SLX for about 4 years now. (6.2.6 but upgradeing to 7.5 next week, crosses fingers), and the size of my attachment database is exceeding 30GB and climbing. Now the nature of our buisness unfortunatly is that everyone needs to see everything. I have three remote offices and having to manually truck the attachemnts with a recut is time consuming. (When I recut a remote I physically move the outfiels from the Sync server to the Infiles on a remote office via an external drive) because otherwise syching 30GB takes a week becase the sync failes all the time and must be manually restarted. Now this isnt too bad considering my remote offices are fairly close (within 2 hours) and I dont recut that opften but going forward it is likely to become a big problem. How do I get a handle on the attachments? Is there an archieve? Where can I draw a line in the sand 200GB? 400GB? It will soon become ridiculous to have a small remote office with a TB of attachments.
Does anyone else have problems with attachements?
Thanks in advance.

Remotes are a heavy burden to support. We used to have them and then went with CITRIX for remote access. This is fine as long as those remote people have access to the internet. The same applies if you implement the web version of SalesLogix as well. Now you could get somewhere if you implemented the mobile version (Blackberry or Pocket PC). But that probably has some drawbacks as well.
If the users can bear to only connect when they have an internet connection then you might want to consider that. I'm sure the the saved time to support remotes (sometimes hours at a time for just one remote) would be justification enough. The added benefit is for management because without remotes you are not waiting around for people to sync to get all the latest info and update all the opportunities they keep an eagle eye on.
