Hello,

My sync service is not working. But when I sync it manually it works good.
I am using SalesLogix 5.2 on Win2000. I tried connecting through BDE Adminstrator and I am able to connect.

The only error I got was in "Event Viewer",
Type: Error
Source: SlxSyncService
Event ID: 0
Event Time: 7/20/2006 7:00:03 AM
User: n/a
Computer: mySyncServer
Description:
Event message could not be found, but contained these strings: Error creating history record. Unknown user name or password.
Login failed for user 'sysdba'.
Login incorrect.
Alias: SyncServiceDB

TIA

Eric

Looks like the sysdba password might have been changed. Have you stopped and restarted all the SLX services on the SyncServer?

I am not familiar with versions before 6.0, but I do know that changing passwords can cause headaches with the sync server if you're not familiar with the process to update it.

Can anyone enlighten us?

Thanks,
John G.

Where to begin?
1) SyncService would not work on my production server because it was missing registry values. I couldn't tell you what they were off the top of my head but RegMon figured it out for me.
2) The KB article you are looking for regarding changing the password is here: http://support.saleslogix.com/kb/sync/12260302.php3 It involves recreating the entire service profile from scratch.
3) Any 5.2 issues you are having will be found in the "Archived Knowledgebase". The newer knowledge base typically deals with 6.2x and greater since all other versions of SalesLogix are about to no longer be officially supported.
4) Back in 5.2 land changing the sysdba password meant REBOOTING the server or else the provider got huffy and WGLogs no longer were created until the reboot occured. Found this out by accident a week later. Woops.

The problem with changing the sysdba password is that there are registry and file settings that kept this stored and they weren't reset until you jumped through the hoops outlined in the KB article. Of course all of that went away in 6.1 I believe.

If "no longer supported" doesn't get you to upgrade try changing your sysdba password 5 or 6 times. Recreating the entire service profile from scratch is not my idea of fun and there are no shortcuts you can take either.

Is this something that has been working and just recently stopped?

Do you have a Schedule setup in the WorkGroup Admin?

When was the last time the syncserver was rebooted?

Thanks for helping me out.

Is this something that has been working and just recently stopped?
Yes it was working before. Recently, I changed the Windows account that the synch service uses. But, I am able to start and stop the service every time.

Do you have a Schedule setup in the WorkGroup Admin?
Yes I do have a schedule in WorkGroup admin, it runs every hour between 10AM-5PM.

When was the last time the server was rebooted?
May be around a month ago.

Do you think I should try restarting the server ?

Thanks again for all your help !

The fact that the sync service starts does not mean it is working. What the sync service does is connect to the database and retrieve the schedule that was entered in the WorkGroup Admin. After is gets the schedule is schedules itself to run as the next scheduled time. When it wakes up at the scheduled time it runs the syncserver, then resubmits itself to run at the next scheduled time.

It sounds like the changes made to the Windows account is the problem. The Windows account that runs the service need specific rights. These are detailed in the Implemanetation Guide which can be found SalesLogix CD-1. Check to make sure that the account meet the requirements.

In the mean time, try using the Local System account to run the Sync Service, or a User Account that is a member of the Administrator's Group for the system.

I don't recall this being mentioned in this thread. Have you tried running the SyncService Monitor? This will tell you what's going on. Also, you might want to check the NT event logs on the server.

The monitor can go a long way in determining what and where things are failing. The monitor service is not installed as a selection from the Start mentu.. You have to run it from

\Program Files\SalesLogix\SlxMonitorConsole.exe

You'll have to register the syncserver (File | Register) The service port is 8950.
