We're seeing an error, Invalid Variant during the sync process and the sync server terminates. I was pretty sure that typically this happens when an expected value is NULL but I can't find any ID columns etc that have a NULL record where a value should be.

Any thoughs or suggestions, my client does not like to call SLX support so I'm stuck sort of trying to wade through Knowledge base etc for an answer and in this case can't seem to find one.

Well.. First of all, your client is now running an UnSupported version of Slx. If he has a support contract it's now "invalid".... The ONLY supported versions of SalesLogix that are now supported are:
v6.2+ and v7.0+

As far as teh particular problem you describe:
A - Did it happen after something was customized?
B - Has it happened since they started using remotes?

..back to the unsupported....
IF your client's Maintenance plan is "current", they are entitled to get the latest version of SalesLogix (including SP's and HF's. All the need to pay for is for someone to do the upgrade. It's NOT trivial to upgrade from 6.1 to the latest.. but not that difficult for someone who is experienced in performing upgrades.
