I recently set up a SLX Remote office between Dayton and Cincinnati and the users are moving between the two more frequently than I had expected. They love it in Cincinnati now (remote office) SLX is much faster and they no longer need to Term server in or go over the WAN (not a good idea I know). Now, of course, when they come to Dayton (Home office) they are connecting back down through the WAN to the cincinnati office.

Should I allow them to change the "Log onto" button on the startup screen to choose which server to log onto. Right now they auto authenticate and cannot change that option. My SLX partner said it might not be a good idea, but couldnt give me a reason why and I havebt heard back yet.

Anyone ran across this one yet? Surely employees from Remote Offices come home to roost once in a while.

Thanks in advance,

SalesLogix does not have (or support) the concept of "roaming". Users will have problems related to Activities/Calendar if you allow them to roam.

A user's profile is "assigned" to ONE place. It can be the main LAN, ONE Remote office, or ONE remote Client.. and that is all.

Trust me.. I let one client (a few years ago) talk me into letting them allow a user to "roam" between a Remote Office in Paris and their LAN in boston.... The first day he complaigned that he was having problems with his activities. Fortunately, I had emails and reminded him that we recommended he NOT do this and there would be Activity issues.. he backed down and we made him a Remote User.

What kind of issues are we talking about? To make matters worse, all users are allowed to log on to a Terminal Server in the Main office that point to the main office when they log in. Should this be changed. Also, I have SLX Mobile 4.5 for the BB that points to the main server up here. Yikes! Too much access to info

I just want to know what to look for when things dont sync smoothly.

Thanks again,

Like I said.. a user's Activities will only show up in ONE place.. the place where they are assigned.. (the main, teh RO or a particular remote). They will not work correctly if they "roam" - and roaming is not a supported feature of SalesLogix - Never has been.
