I want setup 50 remote offices in 50 cities. How many remote office licences I need? SAGE wrote in e-mail that I need only 1 license. But I can't create more than 1 remote office with 1 license. Question: how create unlimited number remote offices using 1 remote office license?
p.s. sorry for my english |

Vladimir - you cannot. Sage are wrong in this respect - you must have one license for every remote office you want to install. There is no "unlimited" license out there for that.
PS Your English is better than some English people !! The funny thing is - the brain works out that the missing words (which is atypical of Russian to English) in a similar way to the fact that it does not read the entire word - only the start and the end letters - it then logically guesses the rest |

English:
"Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe."

Oh great, the forum does not support russian characters
Anyway, about the Remote Office. Is there a documentation on in what the Remote Office should be used and so on? We are going to set up a Citrix environment forthe users and I can't decide if we should have a remote office or point the users straight to a DB through network. |

If you are using Citrix - why would you need a remote office ?? You should be able to just get everyone to using Citrix ?

Really? That's great!
I'm not very knowledgeable about how Citrix works (yet).
Thanks for the good news! |

Quick and dirty explanation :
All the "processing" happens on the server - only keyboard, video and mouse (kvm) IO travels across the network (hence, low bandwidth) and the server maintains a session for each user. That session receives a slice of CPU time in order to see to its needs. In a traditional client/server application - the client requests data from the server, via the network, and processes it. However, if the bandwidth requirements are high (they are for SLX) then the latency times can become excessive if the client is waiting for data across a "thin" network connection. Citrix/Terminal Server score in this respect - as only the data IO (kvm) is required to traverse network. The tradeoff is, however, as the user count increases - so does the CPU utilisation. It's a great solution for a centralised application delivery - via the internet/vpn - as you only have one server to upgrade (of course, opposite applies - if it goes down, so does everyone !) |

I realize this post is a few months old, but It is somewhat relevant to my question.
Citrix or Remote Sync?
We are 100% Citrix environment using Thin Clients only. SLX version 6.2. I have a 22 person remote office that is on the other side of the planet and 350ms away. The Main office has about 40 users The remote office insists that it wants its own servers and to sync data remotely.
My initial thought was to avoid syncing at all costs and to keep it simple. This would give less points of failure or corruption of data.
We also use SQL2005.
I would rather spend the budget on WAN Optimization vs setting up a remote database sync, but I thought I would ask this group for a second opinion on sync the databases to a remote office.
Thanks in advance |

You are absolutely right to go the Citrix route. Distance, in this instance is not an issue (never is with Citrix/TS) as the protocol is so light (when compared to sync traffic). My only concern would be the hardware - 40 users of SLX each at 512Mb means you'd need 20Gb in the machine !! Obviously, better to split that into more servers in a farm instead. |

Yes SLX does like its RAM. We do have muliple load balanced servers in our farm with 4gig of ram each. SLX seems to do pretty well. We have been Citrix only for about 8 years starting with Telemagic and last year moved to SLX.
Our only major downsides being Citrix only are things like Video conferencing or sounds in general I have disabled. Mostly the fun stuff is limited put work applications can be done just fine.
As far as our India office I just need to have better routes to there. I can route through London or Singapore and that is it and both those routes have latency of 350ms, and I dont get to choose which route. Since I am located on the west coast I prefer the singapore route, because I can get to singapore in 40ms but then the next hop to India is 300ms.
