Remote Offices and BlackBerrys
Posted: 13 Jun 07 1:50 PM
We set up a remote office about three months back and all seemed pretty well but all of the sudden the remote Office users were gettig a lot of "strange" problems, like tasks disappearing, tasks not showing completed, activities not rolling over...etc. Well I found out that when the remote office users were in the home office (they are only 40 minutes apart) they would log into the main office (a few figured out how) because when they are at the home office they would be opening SLX from the saelitte office over the WAN (very slow I know and not recomended.) Also I totally neglected to make it so they could not log into the terminal server which also has SLX on it connected to the main office. I had to totally lock them out of the SLX on the terminal server by changing the security on the SLX executable.
Remote users are not a very viable option because everyone need to see everything. Has anyone come across this type of problem? Are my remote office users just out of luck? Can they only access SLX via the satellite office or do I have to put a terminal server at their site also?
Also, most of my remote office users have SLX Mobile on theie BlackBerry. Now if they make changes I have no choice but to access the "Main" server. How do I get around this quandry if they should not/can not make changes to the main database?
Thanks

Kevin,
Synchronization can either be through enterprise server (only syncs back to main server) or personal (syncs back to a saleslogix remotes). Version 4.5 would not allow synging to a saleslogix database type other then the 2 of these. I know this was on the road map to allow syncronization to the remote offices but do not know if this did make it into the v5 release schedule. I would post to the NG on this one.
