Hello @all!

Our agents need their PDA to travel around and visit the customers. Now they would like to have all contacts on their PDA.
We thought about a solution: Export all contacts from SalesLogix (we know how to do it) and to read them with a PDA.
Does anybody have experience with this solution or does anybody have hints for it?

How can I store the information about the contacts (tel, fax, mobile, name, accountname) in the PDA? In a special tool or can I import them into Outlook?

You keep saying "PDA" but need to identify what it actually is. Is it a Windows Mobile PocketPC? Is it a smartphone? Is it a Blackberry? A Palm OS Palm PC?

Don't forget that Sage Software has a product called SalesLogix Mobile as an add-on part of the SalesLogix suite. It synchronizes accounts and contacts with a PocketPC or Blackberry device within the SalesLogix Mobile client application. This is still a fairly new acquisition so a lot of people are not yet very familiar with it or that it is now Sage's (with the exception of its continued product development, which is still in the hands of Corum).

Lukas,

If you want to accomplish this only using the SalesLogix client to get the contacts into Outlook which will then sync to the PDA there are two ways to do this - first things first you will need to enable Advanced Outlook Integration in the SalesLogix administrator tool for either option.

OPTION #1 - Contact Sync Group - select contacts

In the client click TOOLS - OPTIONS, then click the OUTLOOK SYNCHRONIZATION tab.

Click the NEW button to add a "Contact Sync Group". Perhaps type in "SyncSalesLogix" as the ad-hoc group name and click OK twice.

The client will then need to set the mail system to Microsoft Outlook on the E-MAIL tab unless you have configured this option in the SalesLogix Administrator tool.

Any contacts added to the Contact Sync Group will sync over to Outlook contacts, then to the PDA. To add a contact to the Contact Sync Group which you just named SyncSalesLogix the client will need to navigate to the contact desired and click the ADD CONTACT TO OUTLOOK button on the icon bar. Make sure you select the proper Outlook CONTACT location the first time performing this operation.

OPTION #2 - Sync ALL contacts

In the client click TOOLS - OPTIONS, then click the OUTLOOK SYNCHRONIZATION tab. Then select CONFIGURE. Then you will need to select CONTACTS, then click CHOOSE, then select MS Outlook. Make sure Synchronize is selected. Also, keep in mind that you can set SalesLogix as the "system of record" for contacts by clicking on the ADVANCED button and telling it to have "SalesLogix wins".

I've always recommended Option #1. Reason being is the rep decides what gets synced to their 'mobile' device (any OS) via their PDA sync software.

Option #2 I've never really considered an option. Only because in our environment there are literally 1000's of contacts that would sync up with a memory limited PDA device. Plus there is the time it would take to sync all of the contacts as well. Not only would you have to wait for SLX to sync with Outlook but now your going to have to wait for your PDA to sync with all contacts from Outlook.

Here's a gotcha too. How often has a user called or stated 'I closed SLX but it was hanging so I just end tasked it. Well, most likely its 'hanging' is because its syncronizing with Outlook! Now imagine someone at the end of the day wanting to get out (not that any of us do ) and their SLX 'hangs' or their PDA device sync software is hanging (not really - its just doing its job and the user is being impatient. Most likely, they are going to shut down their laptop down and not care about data integrity.

"Don't forget that Sage Software has a product called SalesLogix Mobile"

Hi Jon,

This isn't the Outlook/Saleslogix backend piece of software that is still under testing is it? We have been have a LOT of problems syncing up to our Blackberries. SLX support has been saying for a while that this backend software is supposed to solve all the problems. The problem is that no one knows when it is supposed to be released.

Thanks.
Terry

Terry, Sage has acquired Corum Corporation's SalesLogix Mobile platform for full integration between PocketPCs and Blackberrys. The Enterprise edition runs XML web services on IIS and is configured using the Mobile Administrator tool. Data is synchronized between the devices and SalesLogix with IIS using XML web services. Customizations written in Java (for Blackberry) or .NET (for PocketPC) are made with the Mobile Architect tool. Here's more info:

The platform has been released for some time; support and particularly training, however, may be a little bit of a bumpy ride for the immediate term.

Back when 5.x was king Intellisync let you select any group to use. Not knowing what I do now, I selected All Contacts. Now someone has their PDA full but due to wanting to keep other information on the device, they can't simply purge all of those contacts. Palm doesn't make a way for you to delete records from the computer then sync those deletes down, so they were tasked with deleting some 2k records by hand on the Palm. Tap tap tap.

Good thing that wasn't my responsibility. There may have been a way to selectively restore information from the backups but I couldn't find anything. Not like I wanted to spend more time than a restore from scratch anyway.
