I've decided to strip out version 5.0 and start again with 5.1. The authentication issue may be due to skipping the windows authentication.

Authentication Issue? You suspect that 5.1 will change the authentication of how the moble handles synchronization. I would not make that assumption. If you are good to go to 5.1 then that is great, but I do not suspect that your authentication issue will nessacarly be solved by going to the next version. Probably a configuration setting, or something not exposed correctly.

It was the version of the Blackberry Desktop. Dropped down to version 4.1 and now it is synchronizing.
