6.23 to 7.2 Launch Campaign, Why?

From the Upgrade Workplan...Step 23 Launch any existing Campaigns in Sage SalesLogix. Note If you have already applied the Feature Pack for Marketing, disregard this step. Task 23 Details You must launch all existing marketing campaigns before upgrading. If campaigns are not launched, some campaign information may be lost during the upgrade.
What does Launching the campaign accomplish that must be done prior to upgrade other than complete field CAMPAIGN:ACTUALLAUNCHDATE |

Also, the campaigncontact and contactresponse tables are moved to new table names (campaigntarget & another I don't recall) - so, if the campaign is not launched - they won't exist and won't be moved. |

Yes, I understand that. I guess what I am asking is why is this step here pre-upgrade? We have a number of Campaigns that were imported from an Onyx system and that import is missing lots of data. So, when you perform this setp and launch each campaign what does launching the campaign do that the upgrade requires? I am in the position of trying to go back to that old Onyx database and fill in details that were missed and I need to understand what needs to be in each Campaign record and it's affiliated records such as CAMPAINCONTACT, CAMPAIGNTASK, CONTACTRESPONSE, etc. It will generate an error message on upgrade if something is askew. We ran a Test but I already blew past that step and can't recall what it said or what it might be looking for. Anyone know?
Thanks! |

It's only there to preserve data quality. It's not actually a required step - you can ignore it (I know I do !) - but your data *may* then be out of step with what SLX is expecting to do pre-post upgrade. It only warns you but doesn't stop the process in any way. |
