fiogf49gjkf0d Khevna,
Are you asking can it be done in one weekend, or can it be done by this weekend?
It can be done within a weekend period. The hard part is the up front analysis of the system, identifying what needs to be changed, analyzing customizations (i.e., making sure that changes to customized components get upgraded properly) for both LAN and web (if it applies), testing etc. That cannot probably be done in one weekend. Really, it's all relative to how customized your system is.
Once you've done the up front work, tried the upgrade in a test environment a time or two, learned the pitfalls, etc., you can probably get it done in a weekend with no issues. The down time will depend on how smoothly things go. If you've run through a test upgrade a time or two, you'll have a better idea of how long it will take. Don't forget time for cutting remotes if you need to do that.
Of course, you probably want to make sure that the new server is built and ready to go and your test upgrade involves moving to a new server as you would in the production environment.
Whatever you do: test, test, test.
Version 7.0 should have an upgrade plan work guide. I would use that as my reference. And try the upgrade once or twice in a test environment.

fiogf49gjkf0d We did this basically. But it was done over time. Your best bet would be to do this in two phases. Below are the basics. I think I hit all the necessary points. The first point I will make is... MAKE BACKUPS BEFORE PROCEEDING!
Phase I - Move existing SLX version to the new server: 1. Build the new SLX server and install SQL Server 2005. 2. Install the SLX Server software on the new server. Do not configure any connections. 3. Make sure no one is using the existing production SLX database 4. Disable the current production environment (stop the SLX servers, etc.) 5. Moving the SLX database to SQL Server 2005 should not be an issue. a. Do a backup of the current production database. b. Copy the backup to the new server c. Restore the backup to the new SQL Server 6. See SLX Support doc 03010106 on changing paths in the database. This must be done before running ANY SLX app. 7. Run the SLX Connection manager and setup a connection to the new database. 8. On the new server, run the Administrator and setup a datalink to the new server. Now run the Client and start using it. 9. Update all clients to use the new datalink. We did a login script that updated the connection in the registry when the user logged in.
Phase II - Prepare for upgrading to 7.0 1. Prepare a development environment of the current production database 2. Print and follow the 'Upgrading Sage CRM SaleLogix from version 6.2 to 7.0' documentation to upgrade the development environiment (this documentation outlines everything that has to be done to do the upgrade) 3. When step 2 is done for development do the same for production.
This longest part in the upgrade process will be identifying all customizations and implementing them in the 7.0. If you have no customizations then in all likelyhood you should be able to do this in a weekend.

fiogf49gjkf0d Thanks...your brief plan is quiet helpful.
Can you please help me with this ???? 9. Update all clients to use the new datalink. We did a login script that updated the connection in the registry when the user logged in.

fiogf49gjkf0d Each of the clients will need to use the new SQL2005 Native Client - ensure that is installed on each workstation too (you can do that at any time). You should also install MDAC, .NETv2 and WinInstaller 3.1 from the install DVD on EVERY workstation ahead of time. |

fiogf49gjkf0d The remotes will need MSDE in addition to MDAC, .net v2, and WinInstaller 3.1. This should all be detailed in the implementation guide. |
