I have upgraded a test environment from 623 to 626 and have a strange problem.

The database, SLX Server, Admin Tools and Client are all on the same box, if that makes a difference, and its WinXP Pro SP2 and SQL Server 2000 SP3

The problem is, that on 623, admins and developers used SLX logins (not Windows), and would typically login to Architect as ADMIN and SLX Client as AUSER.

However, in 626 I can't do this. If I set the Data Link Properties to use the ADMIN login and password I can login to Architect, but then cannot login to SLX Client at the same time as AUSER. If I logoff Architect, change the Data Link Properties to use the AUSER login and password I can login to SLX Client. And vice-versa if you see what I mean.

The error I get is 'Failed to connect to Server. Check if server is running and is compatible with the current provider version'

Anyone else seen this, or is it just me. Again.

I have 6.2.6 installed in our dev environment - Windows 2000 Terminal and SQL 2000 SP4 and I am not having this problem. (All SLX components on one box.)

Did anything unusual happen when you upgraded?

The only unusual thing was a process called 'SL Mail Client' crashed at some point duing the Server/Admin Tools/Client upgrade

First thing I would say to do is delete and recreate the data link and make sure its using the correct port (default is 1706).

Also, you mentioned something about getting a SL mail client error when installing. We had a new client we were installing SLX on and were getting this message. It would not install at all. Turned out that the DST Time Zone patch was installed on the client. We applied the SLX workaround and all went well with the install.

Now, I can't say for sure that is the problem there because it sounds like you were able to continue the install. We were not. But I thoughts it would be something you could look into.

John, thanks for the advice.

I tried deleting/recreating the link, and it didn't make a difference

I did have the DST patach installed by mistake, and had to put in the SLX workaround for it, so this might be the cause.

And I have tried the upgrade on another machine (a Win2000 Terminal Server) and it's fine on that.

So I think it just me

I was testing 6.2.6 Admin Workstation today on the customer's build. It worked fine after the initial install. When we advanced the date to March 12th, Admininstrator coughed up an error message concerning the database. I went in, tested the database connection, successful, went back out and signed into Administrator. So I wrote that down as something to do on March 12th on my customer's desktops.

Anyone else test past March 11th?
