Upgrading to 7.0 SP1

fiogf49gjkf0d I just downloaded 7.0 SP1 and while not started with reviewing I figured I'd get a post started to find out who is planning to upgrade to SP1 and any caveats they've run into..
I'm hoping the transition will be fairly simple since we held off upgrading to 7.0 because of the timing of SP1 being released. Another week or so won't matter.

fiogf49gjkf0d What are you upgrading from ? We've done many upgrades (from 5.2, 6.1 and 6.2) and it's not a major update - you don't even have to recut remotes (unless you're on 5.2) - very simple. |

fiogf49gjkf0d Ooops, forgot that little tidbit of info now, didn't I? Upgrading a development environment from 7.0 to SP1. We will then be upgrading from 6.2.1 to 7.0 SP1 in the production environment.

fiogf49gjkf0d 7.0 to 7.0.1 is a doddle - as the only thing it affects is the dashboard (mainly) 6.2.1 to 7.0.1 is slightly more complex as you have SP2/3/4 to go through - which has quite a few form/scripts changes. However, as the plugins are no longer overwritten you should be able to do it quickly. To give you an example - I did 6.1 (no sp) to 7.0.1 in a morning. Make sure you install the reg options to activate the Compare and Forms Converter options in architect - as these greatly assist in the process of checking SLX Forms/Scripts to anything you customised. |

fiogf49gjkf0d I just went through the plug-in updates for SP1 and it looks like there are only minor changes to the ones we customized. |

fiogf49gjkf0d Mike,
We are upgrading from 6.2 to 7.0 SP1 and trying to locate the Compare and Forms Converter option in Architect. I called the help desk and they were not aware of this function. Can you let me know where to find it as would be very helpful.
Thanks

fiogf49gjkf0d It doesn't "exist" per se - it's built into Architect but is hidden from view. You need to make these changes to the registry:
================ Forms Conversion ================ Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SalesLogix\Architect] "AllowFormConversions"=dword:00000001
=============== Compare Utility ===============
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SalesLogix\Architect\ManagePlugins] "ShowCompare"="1" "CompareApp"="C:\\Program Files\\Beyond Compare 2\\BC2.exe [file1] [file2]"
Then install Beyond Compare from Scooter Software - you will then find that Architect has new options when you F9 and select two plugins - the Compare button will highlight. This will then send the two scripts to Beyond Compare for analysis. But, it doesn't bring it back - it's read-only. You can do what you need in BC and then cut/paste it back into the actual script if required.
With Form Conversion - you highlight a legacy form and there will be a new button in Architect called Form Conversion - it will convert a legacy to a new Active form - any When event legacy script is also embedded into the form - but is rem'd out. It gives you a very good start though !! |

fiogf49gjkf0d I have one more question. On the Applying SP1 Hot Fix 1 documentation step 8-11 - it shows I need to go into the registry on every computer running the SalesLogix Client to set the refresh rate. We usually do not like the end user going into the registry. Have you done this and any problems? Also how many milliseconds do you suggest entering for this value?
Thanks

fiogf49gjkf0d No, there is no need to apply HF1 at all to workstations. This fix is only for TS/Citrix installs and can be ignored for normal workstations. |

We had the same exact upgrade path - 6.2.1 to 7.0.1. Actually... we even had the SLX 7.0.0 development environment as well that was first upgraded to 7.0.1 before production. Are we in parallel worlds here?
Anyway... For production (and this was for 2 production databases) is I upgraded both to 7.0 and followed through all the steps of the 6.2.x to 7.0.0 upgrade documentation. I only left out the part about re-releasing our customized plug-ins since the plug-ins were already updated for 7.0.1. I then went through the SP1 documentation and then installed all the customized plug-ins.
This all went smoothly. To this point, we've only had functionality questions (you know, "What's this?" and "How ya do this?"). I think the reports UI is the biggest change for the users here. Yes there are other changes - like Leads and Marketing - but the user set for that functionality is much smaller.
