We have upgraded from 6.2.3 to 6.2.6, and have 7.0.1 on the horizon, but the users want to know how long 6.2.6 will be supported, does anyone know? Our BP dodged the question and said we were 'safe'

Keep in mind slx just droped support for 5.2, 6.0 and 6.1. Now I still have clients on 5.2 and it wasn't designed for microsoft 2003 let alone 2007. Likewise they've been maintaining all the software downloads, knowedge base articals, compatibility and defect list, etc on there servers as well. Discontinuing support for these released them from a lot of maintenance issues, and support training of tech staff. Likewise it frees them up to allocate more money to developement. Currently there are only 2 versions and I'd expect these to be around for a while.

There used to be documentation on the supportonline website that laid out 5.2, 6.0, and 6.1. I believe the document has been pulled and replaced with the following: Find an Answer>Sage SalesLogix Obsolescence Policy.

The key ingredient is paragraph 2:

Quote:

Therefore, we will provide maintenance for the current and two previous major releases. That is, we will generally consider a product to have reached the end of its useful life when three major product releases have occurred since its release or it has been Generally Available (GA) for 3 years.

Currently we're at 1 previous major release but 7.2 will bring us in line with this document. 6.2 has been out over a year now so we're looking at at least 1.5 to 2 yrs left if I'm reading the information correctly.

Having said all that, 6.2 is a MUCH more stable platform than 5.2 even if all of your customizations are Legacy. Staying on that version after support has lapsed would be far easier to maintain than 5.2. I'd even go so far as to say that you wouldn't need to upgrade until a newer version has the features you're looking for, much like how I'd approach an Office 2003->2007 upgrade. All it'd take is another DST 2007 to change that VERY quickly, though.
