Auto assigning the Owner and Account manager Field on an Import
Posted: 08 Feb 08 1:11 PM
This question is for anyone who imports data from other systems nightly. How are you assigning the account ownership to the different owners and account managers. Is there an easy way within SalesLogix that will do this like using the "Default Owner" field in the Client System tab of the Admin program. Or are you hard codeing it in the import program? or some other way?
Please advise

One of my first saleslogix projects was to do just this - take leads off of our web site (www.tradebonds.com) - bring them into saleslogix and send a personalized welcome letter. The new user filled out a very brief survey - and then I mapped the lead to the user. The system knew territories and this was fine. We also created special landing pages (now called microsited) and this would assign specific leads to the brokers who serviced this product. We used KnowledgeSync to send out the Emails - one went to the trader and the prospect. All in all it worked very well.

Presumably your nightly import will be running in an automated fashion under some sort of admin account? If so, the default owner specified in SLX does not really apply, as it is user-specific.
The easiest solution is to have default owner as Everyone (SecCodeID = SYST00000001) and default manager as admin (AccountManagerID = ADMIN) and to hard code this in your import. These values do not change.
Otherwise (if you want to default to another team/user) just do a lookup at the start of your import routine to get the required IDs and you're good to go.
