Any idea why GroupCopy says it is working, yet when I then query the database I cannot find the record it supposedly inserted? It isn't throwing any errors.
In fact, if I run it a second time, it then says it is updating records because they are already there... but.. um... where? |

I'm not sure why GroupCopy didn't work, but I will record here what happened to me in case someone is searching in the future.
I ran GroupCopy to move an account from a backup environment to our Production environment. GroupCopy said it worked, but after further review, it only partly worked. It moved the contacts and history/notes, but didn't actually create the records in the account, accountsummary, and activity tables. I had to manually create those rows.
I tried running Integrity Checker on both environments before trying GroupCopy for another try, but that didn't help. I am not sure why it didn't work...
In any case, at least it saved me from manually moving all the contacts and history. |

As I understand it GroupCopy doesnt get on with cross database copying, as it doesnt generate new ID's for records. |

I believe that it does support cross-database copying ... as long as there are no primary key clashes (because, as you say, new keys are not generated).
But, before today, I'd never even heard of this utility I've just been doing some reading ... Timmus gives more details here:
