Importing from GoldMine

fiogf49gjkf0d Hi,
I have a client running Slx 6.2 who wants to import data (accouts, contacts, history, etc) from a GoldMine SQL database. I have not run into GoldMine for several years. Last time I did the GoldMine DB was a dbf file and I used the Slx ImportWiz.
Has anyone out there done a GoldMine import recently?

fiogf49gjkf0d What Version of Goldmine. I did a Goldmind MS-SQL conversion about 1 yr ago, using Ryan's (Customer FX) DTS tools for this job. |

fiogf49gjkf0d I believe it is GoldMine 6.5... I should know for sure in a couple of days.
I have never used Ryan's product, but I hear great things about it. In this case I don't think the client will springs for the additional software, so I may be limited to the ImportWiz or Scribe (they have the version of Scribe that shipped with Slx 5.x). I was hoping that some one has a SIM file or Scribe files that will work.

fiogf49gjkf0d The client has the SalesLogix ImportWiz and Scribe on there system. The GoldMine database is SQL. BTW, the client purchased an upgrade to Scribe that supports 6.2.4.
The ImportWiz will not connect to the GoldMine SQL database.
The DTSes provided from Scribe seem to be out of date and do not map the data properly.
What version on GoldMine did you import from?
What tool did you use?
Can you share your templates? |

fiogf49gjkf0d Well , thats true.The scribe templates are kinda old.but who wants it anyway! We just use them to get an idea of how to align the data and from there it is all us who dictate what data goes in where.
I used the Scribe Insight latest software and this was against a 6.2.1 database back then!
In scribe i had that Scribe adapter for GM which i used to config the source.The provider gave me some objects thru which i could do the Acc/Contact imports.Be sure to flag those recs when you are getting them to saleslogix c'se your customer can always ask for some data update and if you dont have any lookup fields to do those updates, you will be killed
Send me your email and i can send you the templates from home(work has restrictions!)
Also remember to configure the existing GM exactly like the way your client has it up and running.All dependencies (if any) including Email setup and everything has to be Ok before you start to import the data.
Sometimes the size of the input data becomes high and that time include a source query condition to limit the data that you are reading in one job(As you might know, scribe is not the fastest of all data import tools)

fiogf49gjkf0d Problem with GoldMine is that it has a very akward table structure. The SQL database has exactly the same structure as the DBFs. I've honestly never seen anything worse in a comercial product.
Contacts and accounts are all in the contact and contact2 tables. Any custom fields are in contact2.
Schedule activities of any kind are in the activity table.
Now the interesting part, conthist table, it contains:
history (that is completed activities)
relationship between records (not the hierarchy tree, but the relationships tab)
literature fulfillment
notes (I think, can't recall if there is a separate table)
process information
And the worse part is that it doesn't use the fields in a unique way. A field might have one kind of information for a certain type of record, and then something entirely different for another type of record. |

fiogf49gjkf0d Use Inaport.. you can get a one day license when it comes time to do the actual import. Their GM adaptor works very well.
