Is this a one time import or will this be an ongoing process?

A1: One Time - Do it manually.

A2: Ongoing - The Excel sheet has to have some piece of data in it to link the row of information to the contact in SalesLogix.  Ideally this would be the SLX contact id, but beyond that I'd say go with an email address.

The problem with A2 is there will ALWAYS be exceptions to be dealt with.  For example, if you decide to link via the email address method, what happens when a contact in the Excel sheet does not have an email address entered?  Does the whole process fail (this makes it easier to redo)?  Or does the import for that record only fail, which creates even more issues when trying to deal with that single row again.

You'll struggle with ImportWiz, though it may be possible, as this tool was designed to bring in new accounts, contacts and notes all as part of the same batch. Bringing in Notes only for existing contacts may be possible - though you'll face matching issues, as mentioned above, unless you have the SLX Contact ID as one of your input fields. You'll also have to create a non-standard import map.

Alternatively, use a different tool. You could write the import as a new SLX routine and then use a menu item within the app itself to call it. Or develop an import routine in .NET or SSIS.

Whichever way you select, you'll need a connection via the SLX OLEDB Provider, when creating the new records - otherwise you won't be able to generate the necessary table IDs.

For the time being, this is a single time process. I'm not sure if requests will be coming in future. Manaul editing seems rather implausible as there are hundreds of records to be updated.
