We recently acquired a company that uses SalesLogix v6.0, and need to export their Notes data in a format that won't read the hard returns in the notes field as end of record (I'm thinking Access, but am open to anything). We've been able to export the account and contact data into CSV format, but cannot get the notes data exported in a usable fashion.

I'm a functional business analyst and my technical skills are limited, so I am looking for any ideas - is there a way to connect via ODBC from Access into the SQL Database (read only) or any export functionality within SalesLogix other than *.txt or *.csv or Excel? Create a mailmerge in MSWord?

If the ODBC connection is possible, what is the table name for Notes?

Are you using SQL Server for your SLX database? If so an easy route would be to open Enterprise Manager (assuning SQL 2000, otherwise open SQL Server Management Studio for SQL 2005), navigate to the database, then to the history table. Right-click and select Export Data from the Tasks menu. You'll get a wizard where you can select Text/CSV as the target to export to. It will kick out the data into the tex file easily.
