I am needing to purge data in a particular query. This purge will persist of some 170,000 records (data that has not been modified in over 3 years). Is it possible to purge a specific query? I typically purge on a specific field. Seeming my soon to be purged accounts are already within a query that has been built, would it be easier to purge that group or by specific data field criteria like usual. I currently do not recognize an option to purge by group. v.6.2.6

Soup Dude,

First, of course, backup and test on a test database. This is a lot of data we're talking about. That's my disclaimer in case something goes wrong.

In the LAN client, select the group you want to purge. Select Tools-->Maintenance-->Purge Records. If it's an account group, select "Account and Related Records", if it's contact, select "Contact and Related Records", or oppty. if that's the case. Click Next. Select "Entire current lookup or group", again making sure you're on the right group. Click "Finish".

That should take care of it!

I would break your group into MUCH smaller subsets. My experience is that the process is horribly slow. I suspect that it would take longer than a weekend to purge that much data.

The built-in purge function completely sucks. I'd be very surprised if it could actually handle that

I'd probably opt to doing something custom, like a DTS package or even a series of SQL statements. Then you'd have no problem defining the criteria as you could just base it off a query.

See what happens when I dare to venture outside the world of the web client? I learn something. I'd take Timmus and Ryans suggestions and ignore mine.

I actually think I knew this from years past, but had forgotten it.

Hehe.

Jeff, your answer *is* completely 100% correct. Those are the steps to do it. I'm just not sure the software could handle it. I've always been astonished at how long the purge wizard took to delete records. DELETES! I've never understood that.

Yeah, I wasn't busting your chops Jeff. Just wanted to forewarn about the performance issue.
