SQL 2005 Configuration / Setup

Our company has recently "downsized". I am the only IT person left. I received no "turn-over" of any kind. I was given the task of rebuilding the network (as it was a total mess).
I have recently rebuilt our entire network (i.e. New servers, New Software, etc...). We had, prior to the upgrade, SLX v7.0.1.1075 with a SQL 2000 backend. One of the things I have upgraded was our SQL Server. We now have SQL 2005 Standard.
I am trying to get our SLX back up and running on the new network with SQL 2005.
I am looking for a procedure for the SQL 2005 installation with SLX in mind. Also, it would help greatly to know recommended settings in SQL for setting up and connecting SLX. We recently received the SLX v7.2 disc and I would love to upgrade SLX while I am at it. I found a similar post (http://www.slxdeveloper.com/page.aspx?id=35&articleid=65) but I am not sure if this applies to my situation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Branden:
The Implementation guide has instructions for Installing SLX 7.x on SQL 2005, so that would be the first place to check. There may be some issues to consider if you are using Remotes, but if not it should be simple to do.
As far as upgrading to the latest version, you need to consider whether your system has been customized before running the upgrade. A typical upgrade has the potential of overwriting customizations made on views and scripts, so you would need to figure out what has been customized, what is the extent of the customization and then decide if/how you want to proceed. |

After installing SQL, adding a SYSDBA user, and installing SLX 7 I could not locate the databases in the combo-box in the SLX Connection Manager. I found the DBs in the appropriate folder in the file system and had to manually attach them in SQL 2005.
After all this, I still could not see the DBs in the drop-down list of the SLX Connection Manager. I use the 'sa' login and the DBs show up. Also, if I use the 'Windows Auth...' I can see the DBs. It seems to me that I am fighting with a permissions issue.
I have 2 databases that I need to attach from our old SQL 2000 system.... I don't even need the Blank DB or the Eval DB. Although, I thought it would behoove me to work on the "dummy" DBs until I get things figured out.
I have been working on this since last Monday (9/10/07). I am in need of some help. Can anyone Provide me with the proper settings / procedure for allowing SYSDBA to access the DBs? Thanks, in advance. |
