Random Faxes Being Sent
Posted: 05 May 08 1:05 PM

For the past month or so, faxes in the form of a merge are being sent randomly. Typically it is just the case of a letter being faxed more than once, with days in between. Other times, the completely wrong letter with incorrect merge information will be sent to the wrong recipient. I have tried to look for patterns, but I cannot come up with much. The only pattern worth noting is that the repeat letters are always faxed, whether the original was faxed or emailed. All original letters were the result of a merge performed within 6.2.6. We use RightFax for any outbound faxing that relates to SLX. Some times the randomly sent fax will not even appear in the sent faxes list of RightFax. There have been no major changes made. I updated MDAC on the RightFax server, but that did not change anything. I would assume this issue would relate to SalesLogix, but I cannot begin to think how. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My thoughts are:
-when documents are being sent out a second time, via fax, they are existing documents within SalesLogix -repeat documents are only sent when another merge is performed, whether by email or fax
I cannot think as to what would be triggered to fax the repeat documents. Why are they always faxed out as opposed to an emailed? |

Someone has a printer setup that's utilizing the rightfax driver (possibly), or the document is being sent to a port \\server\rfax. But strangely enough, the documents would not send out to the proper fax number unless there was a [tofax:] embedded in the doucment. Very strange. I would examine the document that's getting faxed out. It has to have embedded codes in it, or some user is telling a lie. |

The thing is, I usually cannot find the document that is being faxed out, as in there is no record of it in RightFax. I don't see how that is possible, unless someone went in and deleted the sent fax. However, the likelihood of someone doing such a thing just isn't there... I go back through and take a closer look at the faxes that are present in RightFax. |
