Devlogix Book

fiogf49gjkf0d I have a stupid question....I never had a formal training on SLX development offered by Sage. I want to buy the Devlogix book.
1. Is the Devlogix book almost the same as the Saleslogix Development training manual? 2. Will the book help an intermediate SLX developer? 3. Is the book geared towards heavy VB scripting programming?
Thanks alot..... |

fiogf49gjkf0d No, it's not the same - it has many practical examples of every day usage. It will definitely help - I find it indespensable everyday ! It has a lot of vbscript in it - plus web instructions. I can't recommend it highly enough - especially if you haven't had training. |

fiogf49gjkf0d Mike Thanks for the reply. I might get a job as a Saleslogix Developer and i'm little nervous about it.
The job requirements are:
1. Candidate must be able to create multiple modules with strong sql experience. 2. Familiarity with VB.net is an asset.
Here is my experience with SLX and programming.
(again i have no training in SLX development but I took the administration course in Scottsdale.)
1. I've created several modules for my company with database tables created for a specific module, and modules integrated to another database(database from another app.) in SQL. I've also created modules for my company's clients. 2. I have little experience in Vb.net. I created a database application for one of our client using SQL server as the back end database. The app. is basically a data entry application with 5 db tables and crystal reports integrated.
With those experiences....
Do you think I will understand the information in Devlogix and help me enhance my current skills? or at least help me if I get this job.
Thanks...I appreciate your help. |

fiogf49gjkf0d I'd ignore the vb.net (just says an asset and, as you say, you've created an app). But you have 2 years dba/slx experience and you've been on the courses. Just go for it - what have you got to lose ? |

fiogf49gjkf0d Yes.. just go for it. Nothing to lose.
As for the DevLogix III book.. I received mine on Friday and am itching to get into it. There seems to be alot of good stuff in it to jump start you on some of the more common things. Active forms, data grids, db access with ADO, main views, support form, crystal reports - yes... thats from the table of contents. The appendices appear to be an excellent resource as well.

buy abortion pill buy cheap abortion pill click here fiogf49gjkf0d Good luck with the book! Also, don't forget to download the SalesLogix Developer's Reference from the support site. Although basic, it is the reference for the appl object model. Always good to reseach that before building your own functions to do something.
Oh, and then there is this site which is a probably one of the best resources I've found for any product. Kudos to Ryan for all his effort, enthusiasm and knowledge!

fiogf49gjkf0d First, thanks to the people who say nice things about the book.
The whole "raison d'etre" of the original book was to help someone who was not a SalesLogix developer become one. If you have already got some VB skills then the syntax of VBScript will be familiar to you. If you already know how to administer SLX and do stuff like add tables and modify forms, then you are ready to fly!
I would always recommend the latest book to anyone. However, if you are dealing with legacy code, or are looking for some beginner tips for the Basic language and SQL, you should also consider the "Legacy" edition of DevLogix. This contains all the legacy stuff that was stripped out of the 2nd edition to make way for all the new stuff in the 3rd edition. As well as the comprehensive Appendix 1 - the Application object (which is also available separately as the DevLogix Companion), there are loads of new additions such as SalesLogix Web and Crystal Reports.
If you are interested in seeing the table of contents, please download from www.slxmaster.com

fiogf49gjkf0d Stephen,
Thank you for explaining. I found the www.slxmaster.com site last night and I was able to compare the other books. I bought the Devlogix 3rd Edition last night. I’m expecting it to arrive tomorrow.
I’m glad you wrote this book! It will help me gain some skills before taking the development training course for Saleslogix.
Thanks again,
Michael
