Linking notes/history to a specific sales opportunity

Stuggling end user with limited IT resources and I need to know:
How do I link notes related to a specific sales opportunity for an account rather than it going into the notes/history tab at the account level. Is this a configuration issue, user issue, or SL issue?
Any help is greatly appreciated.... |

Dee,
It's just a simple training issue.
When you add a note or activity (which will become a note when completed) there is a lookup window for you to associate the opportunity.
Additionally adding notes or activities from the opportunity will automatically associate them together.
That's the quick and dirty explanation. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response. I need to clarify more I believe. I do get the prompt you are referring to when I add the note/activity from within SL, but not for emails. When I generate an email in Outlook and I want to track that email as history under an opportunity, I'm not getting a prompt to associate the email to an opportunity. Any thoughts?

It's been awhile since I've worked with the Outlook Intergrations (I have to work with Lotus Notes! It's terrible!). However I don't think you can do what you are asking. However...
Ryan (The big boss man of this website) has a nice little tool you might want to look at: http://www.outlook2crm.com/
I think that can do what you need.

I don't know that there is a good fix for that email problem.
What you CAN do is train people to drag and drop the email onto the opportunity notes/history tab. I've seen organizations turn off the integration and just train people on that one habit. (You can drag from sent items or your inbox... it doesn't care)
One customization you can have done is to create a tab under opportunity that shows "unlinked" history for that account, and have a function that allows the user to attach an entry to the opportunity after the fact.

What version of SalesLogix are you using? The current version allows you to associate E-mails sent using Send SLX to oppotunities the same way you would a note history. I beleive this was alaos possible in 6.2.
